"There doesn’t seem to be a music style Wilfred is incapable of composing in. Without hesitation, I recommend him to other producers in my circle. It can be hard to find just the right sound for a project, but Wilfred makes the process simple and intuitive."

ABOUT

Wilfred is a Chinese-German-Canadian composer for screen and stage from Toronto. He has scored numerous films of wildly varying genres, including the award-winning Sammy, Without Strings and Desync. His work has been heard at film festivals worldwide, including TIFF Next Wave, NFFTY, Austin Film Festival and EnergaCAMERIMAGE.

Wilfred created the musical A Perfect Bowl of Pho with his friend and fellow Jeopardy! enthusiast, bookwriter/lyricist Nam Nguyen. After debuting at the University of Toronto Drama Festival, Pho was developed through the Paprika Festival and fu-GEN Theatre. It became the critically-acclaimed, best-selling show of the 2022 Toronto Fringe Festival, and was named one of the Toronto Star's top theatre picks of 2022. Wilfred and Nam are developing another musical, Red Tide, which was originally commissioned by Theatre Sheridan for its First Drafts series. In February-March 2023, Wilfred was part of The Musical Stage Company's NoteWorthy workshop.

Wilfred's stylistic versatility and keen ability for emotional storytelling is evident in the wide range of genres that he has written for. His strong sense for melody shines throughout his body of work, and he draws inspiration from all over - his favourite film composers (particularly Desplat, Tapia de Veer and Pemberton), his classical piano training, his childhood first love (Nintendo games), creating instruments from household objects - nothing is off the table.
